Christopher Ward C7 Italian Racing Red Chronometer Limited Edition

Look at this fiery piece! It’s the new C7 Italian Racing Red watch by Christopher Ward, this time in the Chronometer version. The original C7 IRR was presented in 2012, attracting a lot of attention, something that surprised even Christopher Ward themselves. In fact, there was such a strong demand for it that the watch became the company’s fastest selling timepiece, sold out in a matter of weeks! Now, that tells you a lot.

So, what does the new model bring? Well, obviously, we have the bright red dial which visually dominates the watch, complemented with a matching bezel with a tachymeter scale. When talking about the new C7, we can distinguish three versions of the timepiece: first, we have the model with the stainless steel bracelet, followed by a more sporty rubber strap, and finally, we have a stylish “Toro Bravo” Italian leather strap. Each of these versions of the watch comes in a limited edition of 500 pieces.

Sporty all around

Another thing in common these watches share is the stainless steel case, measuring 42 mm in diameter. On the right side, you’ll find the typical three components, the crown and the chronograph pushers. These have very nice knurled surface, which complements the rest of the case. Looking at the back, there’s not much to be seen, since this is a solid case-back. As for the water resistance, the new C7 will do just fine up to 100 meters of depth, which sounds pretty good.

The watch comes in three versions, with either a steel bracelet, rubber strap, or like this one, a stylish Italian leather strap

Looking at the dial, besides the striking color, one of the first things we notice is the typical chronograph layout. That means we have three counters, the small seconds counter being on the lower portion of the dial. Next, we have the circular date window, placed at 4 o’clock. For better visibility, the hands and indexes feature Super-LumiNova. One of the cool details on the dial is the green central second hand, which together with the hands and the background evokes the colors of the Italian flag. Neat! And that’s not all, if you look closely at the dial, you’ll notice there aren’t any hour numerals; instead, we have the prominent minutes numerals (and at the same time, the seconds). Finally, the whole dial is protected with a sturdy sapphire crystal, which has antireflective coating.

Not that exciting from the back

When it comes to this new C7, it’s not just the good looks that are important. This is actually one of the most accurate watches in the world. Inside this timepiece is the ETA 251.233, a thermo-compensated chronograph movement with 27 jewels that has been certified by the Official Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute.

Finally, let’s talk about the pricing. The C7 Italian Racing Red Chronometer features different prices for different models; the leather and the rubber strap versions cost £599 (includes the UK VAT), while the watch with the stainless steel bracelet is slightly more expensive at £650. Additionally, Christopher Ward give a 5 year warranty on the movement, which is certainly nice to hear.
