Finally! More details on HYT
Not so long ago we talked about a new brand that announced they will bring us something unprecedented, something stunning and exciting that will shake the world of watch connoisseurs. Vincent Perriard, the founder of the brand, then released a “teaser” video, with which he played with our imagination and curiosity without mercy. Now you certainly recall our article about HYT.
The watch will be presented at Baseworld 2012, which is scheduled for March 8-15 at Basel ,Switzerland of course. But now we finally have access to the information about this mysterious new watch. Even at first glance it looks like a powerful machine, like it has an entire engine inside. Well, no wonder, as this is the first time that liquid was used in a watch. The mechanism is completely new and is combined with tiny bellows that regulate the liquid…
When looking at it one can get confused as all there is to see is the mechanism. Where are the hands? Where are the number indices? What kind of a watch is this? Well, Vincent Perriard promised to come back with an innovation we haven’t imagined so far, and he hasn’t let us down.
The numerals are placed on the side of the bezel, but there are still no hands. Instead, we have a circular tube on the bezel, through which the bellows pump the liquid. There is in fact a transparent liquid in the tube and a fluorescent one. The fluorescent liquid is the indicator of the hours. Note the emphasized 6 o’clock numeral. When the fluorescent liquor hits 6 o’clock, it will fly back to the other side to continue counting the hours. Now this is a watch that has to be fun to wind!
Now we come to the minutes. The minutes indicator is, well, something we are used to. It is located at the 12 o’clock position and is a standard subdial. The seconds are again of interesting design. The wheel at 9 o’clock is the seconds indicator, but the possible drawback of this design might be that it doesn’t have markers. So you would be seeing the seconds ticking without the possibility of reading the seconds. But if you don’t really need that kind of precision, this will still be a fun feature. On the 2 o’clock position we have the flyback power reserve indicator for the mechanical movement. The back of the watch is transparent as well so the owner can enjoy watching the entire mechanism ticking.

The mechanism of the watch is very interesting and can be observed by the wearer as both the face and the back of the watch are transparent.
And what does the enormous 38.8 mm in diameter and 17.9 mm thick case hold within? The entire movement is made in-house and comprises 35 jewels, an exclusive HYT caliber that runs at 28,800 vph. The power reserve lasts up to 65 hours. The case itself will be available in titanium, DLC black-coated titanium and 18 karat red gold, with a protected screw-down crown. The designer took great care to make the watch robust so that you can wear it normally, without worrying that it will scratch and damage the complex mechanism. Interestingly, this piece is not so insanely priced as one would expect it to be. It is estimated to $45,000, with the price of the rose gold version was not yet mentioned.
And finally, here is the new full video presenting this fabulous creation.
