Glashütte Original presents blue-dial PanoMaticLunar & PanoMatic Luna models

To celebrate the summer of 2017, the German watchmaker Glashütte Original has released new blue-dialed versions of its PanoMaticLunar and PanoMatic Luna watches. Featuring intense shades of blue, both the men’s and ladies’ models are equipped with two of the brand’s signature watchmaking complications: moon phase and the Glashütte Original Panorama Date. This year, the latter one is celebrating its 20th anniversary. First presented in 1997, the innovative and sophisticated “big date” has over the time become a trademark feature of the Saxon brand. The new blue-dialed Glashütte Original PanoMaticLunar and PanoMatic Luna models are available to buy at the brand’s boutiques and authorized retailers. The prices have not yet been revealed but, judging by previous versions, are expected to be around $10,000.

The new Glashütte Original PanoMaticLunar is housed inside a 40 mm stainless steel case. Water resistant to 50 meters, the case features a steel crown decorated with the Glashütte Original’s signature double G logo. On the back of the watch we have a transparent sapphire caseback revealing the movement inside. This elegant men’s timepiece features a deep blue dial. The exact shade was determined by an experienced team of designers from the brand’s in-house dial manufactory in Pforzheim, Germany. The designers managed to achieve the desired shade through an extensive galvanization process The dial features the collection’s characteristic asymmetric design. The arrangement of the individual displays is actually inspired by the golden ratio – the historic law of aesthetic harmony. The left side is “reserved” for the two overlapping off-centered counters – hour and minute, and small seconds. At 2 o’clock we have the moon phase display. Positioned at 4 o’clock is the signature date window. Set against a blue background, the two white numerals are considerably larger than on similar watches.

The elegant Glashütte Original PanoMatic Luna comes in a slightly smaller package, measuring 39.4 mm in diameter. The watch is also in stainless steel, but with diamonds. A total of 83 white brilliant-cut diamonds are on the bezel, the dial indexes and winding screw crown. Beneath the front sapphire glass lies a delicate blue mother-of-pearl dial. Like on the men’s model, the dial here is also a product of the brand’s in-house dial manufactory. Harvested from the inmost layer of certain mollusc shells, the white mother of pearl has been carefully coated with a layer of blue lacquer. As for its layout, it is the same as with the men’s model.

Both PanoMaticLunar and PanoMatic Luna are powered by the Calibre 90-12 with 47 jewels. This Exquisitely finished self-winding movement features several traditional elements of Glashütte watchmaking including the three-quarter plate, blued screws and skeletonized rotor with 21k gold oscillating weight. The movement itself beats at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and offers a power reserve of approximately 42 hours. Completing these two elegant watches we have stylish alligator leather straps – blue for the men’s model and grey-blue for the ladies’ version. The Glashütte Original PanoMaticLunar is also available with a stainless steel bracelet.
