Introducing – the new Breitling Navitimer 8 collection

SCHWEIZ BREITLING NAVITIMER 8 B01

Coming from the workshops of Swiss manufacturer Breitling is a new pilot’s watch collection: the Navitimer 8. Comprised of five timepieces, the series takes inspiration from the Breitling’s historic Huit Aviation Department. Established by Willy Breitling, the grandson of the brand’s founder Léon Breitling, in 1938, this division produced onboard instruments and wrist chronographs for military and civil aviation. The word “Huit” in French means “eight” – a reference to the eight-day power reserve offered by the iconic cockpit instruments. According to Georges Kern, Breitling’s CEO since the summer of 2017, the new Navitimer 8 watches do not only honor the past, but also open the door to a very exciting future.

Visually, the new Breitling Navitimer 8 watches are between Huit’s onboard clocks and chronographs from the 1930s and 1940s, and the legendary Navitimer. Many design features, including the notched rotating bezel with triangle pointer and the large luminescent Arabic numerals, are borrowed from the iconic reference 768 produced in the 1940’s.

The Breitling Navitimer 8 B01 comes in two 43mm models: stainless steel (ref AB011713) and 18k red gold (ref. RB011713). The steel version is offered with a choice of black or blue dial while the gold model comes only with a bronze-colored dial. The dial layout on each model includes small seconds at 9, 30-minute and 12-hour chronograph counters at 3 and 6 respectively, and a date window between 4 and 5 o’clock. Each watch is powered by Breitling’s COSC-certified in-house Caliber 01. The steel model is available with a black leather strap or stainless steel bracelet while the red gold one comes exclusively with a brown alligator leather strap.

Housed in a 43mm case, the Breitling Navitimer 8 Chronograph also comes in two editions: stainless steel (ref. A1331410) and DLC-coated stainless steel (ref. M1331410). Available with black or blue dials, the timepieces display hours, minutes, small seconds 9, 30-minute and 12-hour chronograph counters at 12 and 6 respectively, and date at 3 o’clock. Powered by the Breitling Caliber 13, each model is presented on a black leather strap. The stainless steel version is also available with a steel bracelet.

Next we have the Breitling Navitimer 8 Automatic. Available in stainless steel (ref. A1731410) or DLC-coated stainless steel (ref. M1731410), this 41mm model displays only the essentials – the hours, minutes, seconds and date. Again, there is a choice of black or blue dial for each version. Inside each watch is the Breitling Caliber 17 – a 4Hz self-winding movement with a power reserve of 40 hours. Both references come on a black leather strap. The stainless steel model is also available with a steel bracelet.

Designed with international travelers in mind, the new Breitling Navitimer 8 Unitime (ref. AB352113) displays the time in 24 different time zones. The hour hand can be moved clockwise or anticlockwise with a turn of the crown. The date window follows this automatically while the minute hand remains in place. To see the time in other time zones, all it takes is to position the current time zone at 12 o’clock and the counterclockwise rotating 24-hour ring will indicate what time it is around the globe. This user-friendly method is possible thanks to an intelligent differential system and connection between the city ring and the highly innovative Caliber B35 – Breitling’s first in-house movement without a chronograph. The watch has a 43mm stainless steel case. Available with a black or gray dial, the Navitimer 8 Unitime comes on either a black leather strap or stainless steel bracelet.

Featuring a 41mm stainless steel case, this model displays the time, date (6 o’clock), and day of the week in a Rolex-esque aperture at 12 o’clock. Beating inside the timepiece is the Caliber 45 – a 4Hz self-winding movement with a power reserve of 40 hours. Available with a black or blue dial, the watch is presented on either a black leather strap or stainless steel bracelet.
