Introducing – The Vacheron Constantin FIFTYSIX® collection

Vacheron Constantin FIFTYSIX® collection 1

Comprised of three models, Vacheron Constantin’s latest collection pays homage to the historic reference 6073 introduced in 1956. This iconic model has a special place in Vacheron Constantin history as it expresses the rich creativity displayed by the brand during the 1950’s – the golden age of round watches. The 1956 timepiece is distinguished by its characteristic lugs that represent the branches of the company’s signature Maltese cross emblem. The reference 6073 was also one of the first Vacheron Constantin models to feature a self-winding movement.

The new FIFTYSIX® watches bear several similarities with the piece that inspired them. The most notable, of course, are the lugs inspired by the branches of the Maltese cross. Another vintage-inspired feature is the box-type crystal rising well above the bezel. In the past, this component was made from Plexiglas or mineral glass, but nowadays it is made from sapphire. As a tribute to the self-winding movement of the reference 6073, Vacheron Constantin has equipped each new model with an automatic caliber.

The new Vacheron Constantin FIFTYSIX® collection features three new watches: FIFTYSIX® self-winding, FIFTYSIX® day-date, and FIFTYSIX® complete calendar. Available in pink gold or stainless steel, each model has a 40mm case that is water resistant to 30 meters. On the back of each case there is a transparent sapphire caseback revealing the movements decoration and a new oscillating weight specially designed by Vacheron Constantin for this series. Featuring a Maltese Cross applique and a frosted-snailed finish, this openwork rotor is a signature feature of all FIFTYSIX® timepieces. Another distinctive feature is the handsome sector-type dial. The dial (grey on steel models, silvered on pink gold models), features opaline center and sunburst exterior. The two differently finished surfaces add an additional touch of elegance and give the dial more depth.

The Vacheron Constantin FIFTYSIX® self-winding is powered by a brand new movement – the Calibre 1326. This self-winding movement beats at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and offers a power reserve of approximately 48 hours. The dial displays the hours, minutes, seconds and date at 3 o’clock. The FIFTYSIX® self-winding (like all models in the series) comes on either a brown (pink gold) or dark grey (stainless steel) alligator leather strap.

Next is the Vacheron Constantin FIFTYSIX® day-date. In addition to hours, minutes and seconds, this model also displays the date and day of the week through two snailed counters, at 3 and 9 o’clock respectively. Completing the dial is the power reserve indicator at 6 o’clock. Inside this piece is the Calibre 2475 SC/2 – a 4Hz automatic movement with a 40-hour power reserve.

And finally we have the Vacheron Constantin FIFTYSIX® complete calendar. The highlight of the collection, this watch displays hours, minutes, seconds and moon phase at 6. The date is displayed via a blue arrow-tipped central hand while the day and month are displayed in two separate windows at 12 o’clock. The Calibre 2460 QCL/1 is extremely reliable and precise. The movement’s moon-phase function requires adjustment only once every 122 years.
