Established in 1905, the Horween Leather Company is one of the ne of the oldest continuously running tanneries in the United States, and the only one located in Chicago. The company produces different types of leather that are used for a variety of products like sports equipment, footwear, jackets, bags, and many more. About 40% of the brand’s leather is used for sporting goods. The company has provided Rawlings with leather for baseball gloves since 1929. About half of MLB players are using gloves made from Horween leather. The company’s largest customer is Chicago-based Wilson Sporting Goods, who uses the leather for footballs and basketballs. Horween Leather Company has been the exclusive supplier of leather for NFL footballs since 1941. The brand also works with Spalding, supplying them with leather for indoor Arena Football League footballs and NBA basketballs.

Now back to the watch. Inspired by a Multifort of the 1940s, the new Multifort Escape Horween Special Edition is housed in a large 44mm stainless steel case. The case is water resistant to 100 meters and has an aged and sandblasted black PVD treatment. Underneath the domed sapphire crystal is a highly legible black dial. Decorated with vertical Geneva stripes, it features beige minute track, luminous beige hour markers, and black skeleton hour and minute hands. The hour and minute hands, as well as the small triangle on the central seconds hand, are all filled with beige Super-LumiNova. Completing the dial is the date window at 6 o’clock.

The Mido Multifort Escape Horween Special Edition is powered by the Caliber 80 with 25 jewels. Visible through the sapphire caseback, it features an oscillating weight decorated with Geneva stripes and the brand’s logo. The self-winding movement beats at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour and guarantees a substantial power reserve of 80 hours. The timepiece is perfectly suited to every occasion, thanks to the two easily interchangeable Horween leather straps: the Essex, a brown genuine calfskin with black stitching; and American Football, a black genuine calfskin strap with football pattern and beige stitching. Both strap options are secured with a black PVD stainless steel pin buckle. The new Mido Multifort Escape Horween Special Edition comes in a special presentation box.
