Movado Red Label Calendomatic

Movado Red Label CalendomaticFor the end of this week, we will descent from the dizzying heights of the haute horlogerie for a quick look at something more accessible to the average human being. Would you believe this is our first article about Movado? Neither could I. Surely, this occasion deserves an introduction! And what better introduction than a little trivia game! I’ll ask questions, and you can check your answers at the end of this article :)

A) Do you know what Movado means?

B) Who’s the most famous Movado brand ambassador?

C) What is the most famous Movado model?

As for today’s timepiece, Movado Red Label Calendomatic, it is the update of the 2009 very handsome timepiece of the same name, this time with the inclusion of a small seconds subdial. Very nice addition, if you ask me. Someone at Movado design team did a great job moving the crown down to the 5 o’clock thus perfectly counter-balancing that subdial. Of course, as the most of Movado timepieces, at 12 o’clock we have the trademarked dot, a heritage from their most famous (spoilers!) model – The Museum Watch. The 42 mm case is made in stainless steel, PVD coated and water resistant to 30 meters. Sapphire crystal covers both dial and the case back, offering view at the (soon to be very limited) automatic workhorse – ETA caliber 2895-2. This particular instance features a custmized rotor with red letter M.

I wonder if any of these Movado Red Label Calendomatic will become a sought after item, when Swatch kills its supplies? I guess that would depend on how many would be produced…

And now the answers:

A) It is an Esperanto (!) word for continuous movement!

B) In my humble opinion – Amanda Seyfried, a very lovely American actress. Who would have thought that staring in Mean Girls will eventually lead to portray one of the most famous adult entertainment actresses of all time? Actually wait…

C) The Museum Watch, a first watch that was included in MoMA (Museum of Modern Art) permanent collection. That immortal design featured a clean black dial and a single dot located at 12 o’clock, apparently symbolizing the sun at high noon.
