New Bulova Accutron ambassador and Gemini Valjoux Collection

Sir Richard Branson BulovaIn one of the oddest pairings of the year Bulova chose Sir Richard Branson to be their brand ambassador for the Accutron collection. So, what’s so odd about that you would say? Well, perhaps the fact that Sir Richard could probably buy Bulova… wait a minute! Nah, we don’t know if the 5th richest person in the United Kingdom bought the American watch brand, but it is kind of perplexing why would anyone of the Sir Richard’s status allow himself to be associated with (snob alert) a watch brand that doesn’t even make its own movements?
Perhaps because of his latest business endeavor? Virgin Galactic is the Earth’s first space travel company, or at least a company that offers sub-orbital spaceflights. If you don’t believe me, you can book your travel right here! There is no set dates, though.
So, what is the connection between Virgin Galactic and Bulova you ask? In 1969, Bulova’s Accutron timer was part of the first Moon landing, as it has been placed in the Sea of Tranquility to control vital data transmissions. Leave it to Omega to pick all laurels as being the first watch on the Moon…

Bulova Accutron Gemini Valjoux Collection

As the name implies, the heart of this collection named after the NASA’s pioneering space program that achieved its triumphant peak with an Apollo 11 landing on the Moon, is the omnipresent and immortal ETA 7750 Valjoux automatic chronograph movement.
The retro design of this collection truly evokes that nostalgic feeling of the time teeming with possibilities – 1960s. It must be said, it is superb.
The case is 42 mm stainless steel and covered with anti-reflective sapphire crystal and transparent screw-down back. There are three models in Gemini Collection63C106 – black dial with bracelet of stainless steel with double-pusher folding clasp, 63C107 – with silver-toned dial and brown leather strap and personal fave – 64C104 with PVD-treated rose gold case, black dial and brown leather strap.

The prices will be 63C106 version – CHF 1,890, 63C107 version – CHF 1,760, 64C104 version – CHF 1,890.

    ♥ Bulova + ♥ Virgin Galactic = ♥♥

  2. Dalibor says:

Indeed! Bulova undeservedly took the back seat to Omega, they produced all time measuring equipment on board of all Apollo ships…
And for Richard Branson, he simultaneously is a very irritating person and a genius! If there were more billionaires like him, we would already have a resort on Moon or something…
As for Virgin Galactic, 200k is a bit steep price, but considering there are watches out there that costs more, it’s not that bad! As for me, I already started saving, hopefully prices would drop in ten years or so :)
