Nole wins US Open, Audemars Piguet ecstatic

Talk about good timing! I don’t know who’s the man (or woman) responsible for signing current tennis number one Novak Djokovic as the Audemars Piguet ambassador, but I’m pretty sure he (or she) is getting a promotion right now. Audemars Piguet might even be the only ones who can celebrate Nole’s victory on par with his Serbian compatriots. Granted, the sound emitting from the Audemars Piguet headquarters in Le Brassus is only clinking of champagne glasses, while in Belgrade, you can seriously damage your hearing by the shots of the automatic weapons and roar of the light antiaircraft guns. And, no, I am not exaggerating. Serbs have been accused of many things, but subtlety has definitely never been one of them.
If you by any chance managed to miss the amazing, in the original meaning of the word, US Open, the semifinal match between Roger Federer and Nole, has gone down in history as one of the most exciting tennis matches ever. The astonishing young master Djokovic overcame being two sets behind for a win in the breathtaking finale of the 5th set, saving two match points in style that could only be described as “ballsy”. Seriously, watch it bellow. It can be hardly believed this is not a scripted scene from one of Tony Scott’s movies. Highway to the danger zone!
Then it came the great final match against the always unpleasant Nadal. You would never tell it was a hard match just by looking at the deceptively straightforward score: 6-2, 6-4, 6-7 (3), 6-1. In all fairness, the result didn’t come as much of surprise. It was only the 6th time Nole has beaten Rafa this season.
Picking up the US Open trophy for the first time in his career, Nole proved again that this season might be the best season any professional tennis player ever had. Even great John McEnroe agrees, himself a holder of the record year – in 1984, he has won 82 times and lost just three matches! Best season in tennis? How about the best season in any sport? 24-year young master Djokovic is currently at 64 wins, and 2 defeats, but there is yet much to play until the end of this season.
For us watch enthusiast, it was a tri-match between two of the haute horlogerie brightest stars – Rolex and Audemars Piguet and a renegade Richard Mille. The outcome is now widely known as well as the Audemars Piguet name. Speaking of which… After that long and grueling final, Nole took the day off and went to do some sightseeing, with his newly awarded shiny trophy and his new favorite watch Royal Oak Offshore Diver.
