Coming from renowned Swiss watchmaker Oris is a new pilot’s watch – the Big Crown ProPilot Calibre 114 (ref. 01 114 7746 4063 / 4164 LS). Equipped with a brand new movement, the latest Oris timepiece combines a generous 10-day power reserve, a patented non-linear power reserve indicator, a date display and a 24-hour second time zone with half-hour indication. According to the Hölstein based manufacturer, there is currently no other Swiss mechanical watch that features all of these functions. Continuing the brand’s rich aviation heritage, the new Big Crown ProPilot Calibre 114 further confirms Oris’ authentic approach to watchmaking. With this model, the company continues to produce timepieces for “real people”, whether they are experts or just casual watch enthusiasts.

The first GMT or second time zone watches entered the market in the 1950’s and were initially designed to help pilots who traveled long distances and across time zones. Today these timepieces are worn not just by aviation professionals but also by everyday people. Throughout its history, Oris has produced numerous GMT watches, but the Big Crown ProPilot Calibre 114 marks a new high point. For the first time, the 24-hour time zone offers local time adjustment to the nearest half hour. This is very useful when travelling to time zones that are offset by 30 minutes. The second time zone is indicated by a red-tipped central hand.

Housed in a large 44mm stainless steel case, the new Oris Big Crown ProPilot Calibre 114 is water resistant to 100 meters. Like all models in the Big Crown ProPilot series, it features an oversized crown and a coin-edged bezel inspired by jet engine blades. On the back of the watch there is a stainless steel case back with a mineral see-through crystal. The timepiece is available in two dial options: anthracite or black. The models with anthracite dials have polished bezels while the versions with black dials feature brushed bezels. Both dials are very legible and feature luminous numerals and hands. The functions include hours, minutes, central GMT hand, small seconds and date at 9, and power reserve indicator at 3 o’clock.

The new Big Crown ProPilot Calibre 114 is powered by the Calibre 114 – Oris’ fifth in-house developed movement. Beating at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour, this hand-wound movement shares the same architecture as the previous four movements and offers a generous 10-day power reserve with just a single barrel. This large power reserve is shown by a non-linear indicator which displays the time until the movement needs rewinding with ever greater accuracy as the days pass.
