Based on the stylish Aquis diver’s, the Oris Source of Life Limited Edition (ref. 01 733 7730 4125 MB) is inspired by the river Rhine. The Rhine begins in Switzerland and passes through Germany and the Netherlands before eventually emptying into the North Sea. Oris chose this particular river because it flows close to the village of Hölstein where the company has been located since 1804, and because the Orisbach, a nearby creek from which the brand takes its name, feeds into it. The latest Oris watch is released as a limited edition of 2,343 pieces – a nod to the height above sea level of the Lake Tomasee – the official source of the river Rhine.

The new Oris Source of Life Limited Edition is housed in a 43.5mm stainless steel case. The timepiece is water resistant to 300 meters and features a uni-directional rotating bezel with a grey tungsten inlay with a 60-minute timer scale and zero marker filled with luminous material. On the back of the watch there is a screwed stainless steel case back with embossed map of the River Rhine and engraved limited edition number.

Underneath the sapphire glass lies a beautiful blue grey dial with applied indices and nickel hands. According to Oris, this particular color was specifically chosen because it is reminiscent of the fresh water at the river Rhine’s source. The hours and minutes are indicated by two central hands coated with Super-LumiNova. The dial also has a central seconds hands with a “lollipop” filled with luminescent Super-LumiNova. This is crucial because in order for a timepiece to qualify for diver’s watch status, it must feature a dial that displays the running of the movement to indicate to the user that their dive timing is precise and accurate. Completing the dial we have an ingenious circular date indicator. Running around the centre of the dial, it features a channel with a white indicator that aligns with the scale and makes a full tour of the dial once a month.
