Parmigiani Fleurier refreshes the Kalpa collection for 2018

Parmigiani Fleurier Kalpa 6

At the upcoming SIHH 2018, Parmigiani Fleurier will unveil several new models, including the three new Kalpa watches for men: Kalpa Chronor, Kalpagraphe Chronomètre and Kalpa Hebdomadaire. Introduced in 2001, the Kalpa watch is one of the brand’s most signature timepieces. Its hallmark features include the elegant tonneau case, the stylish teardrop-shaped lugs, and the understated dial with Delta-shaped hands. The highly distinctive shape of the case takes inspiration from the first shaped wristwatch movement developed by Michel Parmigiani in 1998. The tonneau-shaped calibre PF110 was the brand’s first in-house made movement.

The lines of the signature tonneau-shaped case have been redesigned and now feature a slight concavity

The latest 2018 Kalpa models all come equipped with a new shaped calibre that integrates precisely with the carefully designed outlines of the case. All three movements are COSC-certified and produced entirely in-house. The exterior has also been changed. The lines of the signature tonneau-shaped case have been redesigned and now feature a slight concavity that adds dynamism and character to the overall look. The curved teardrop-shaped lugs have also been reworked to fit more perfectly with the case. Featuring resized, luminescent-coated delta-shaped hands, the dials are more legible than the ones on the previous Kalpa models. To further enhance their readability, Parmigiani Fleurier has moved the date window away from the small seconds counter and positioned it at 12 o’clock. The date aperture features 3 numerals, of which the 1 has either a gold or bright red powder finish to indicate the start of each month.

Inside the watch is the calibre PF365 – the world’s first solid-gold, self-winding, integrated chronograph movement! A result of  six-year development, this 5Hz self-winding movement has a power reserve of 65 hours. Completing the watch we have a stylish Hermès black alligator strap.

The Parmigiani Fleurier Kalpagraphe Chronomètre (ref. PFC193-1002500-HA3242) also features a 48.2 x 40.4 mm 18k rose gold case. The blue dial features rose gold indices, hands and two snailed counters enclosed within a fine gold edging. The layout is the same as on the Kalpa Chronor. The timepiece is powered by the caliber PF362, a self-winding movement that beats at a frequency of 36,000 vibrations per hour and offers a power reserve of approximately 65 hours. The Kalpagraphe Chronomètre comes on a Hermès blue alligator strap.

Featuring 28 jewels, the manual-winding movement beats at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour. Thanks to its 2 series-coupled barrels, it is able to offer an impressive power reserve of 8 days! The black dial displays hours, minutes, date at 12, small seconds at 6, and a weekly power reserve indicator just above the date window. The timepiece is presented on a Hermès black alligator strap.
