Debuted in 2016, the Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda Métropolitaine Sélène is an exquisite ladies’ watch designed to represent the moon phases. Displaying one of watchmaking’s most romantic complications, it enriched the contemporary, elegant design of the Métro collection, and introduced the caliber PF318, the brand’s 33rd in-house made movement. Today Parmigiani Fleurier is introducing a new version of this exceptional model – the Tonda Métropolitaine Sélène Galaxy. Elegant and breathtaking, the watch is equipped with a mesmerizing aventurine dial that adds a new dimension to the moon phase complication. The latest Parmigiani Fleurier model is available at the brand’s boutiques and authorized retailers. The timepiece is priced at CHF 15,900.

The new Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda Métropolitaine Sélène Galaxy features a midnight blue aventurine dial. A type of quartz, aventurine is distinguished by its translucency and the presence of mineral inclusions that create a shimmering or glistening effect (“aventurescence”), giving it its characteristic textured appearance. Here, the surface of the aventurine dial is mottled with fine golden fragments, beautifully replicating the sparkling of the stars in the night sky.

Located at 12 o’clock, the moon phase window features a pink gold moon disc. Radiating a magical glow, the moon features a delicate surface made up of craters (also known as lunar seas). These craters were made by applying successive layers of transfers, a highly complex process that requires years of experience and great skill. More than just a simple representation, the disc is a genuine embodiment of the moon. The movement of the moon disc is based on a gear driven by the hour wheel, which rotates at half the speed of the gear. The gear drives the moon every 24 hours via a bendable blade integrated in the centre of its wheel. Using the 9 o’clock corrector, the user can independently adjust the moon in relation to the day and date. Even if used incorrectly, the moon correction system cannot be damaged thanks to the flexible blade.

The new Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda Métropolitaine Sélène Galaxy is housed in a 33.2mm polished stainless steel case. Water resistant to 30 meters, the case features a bezel set with 72 brilliant cut diamonds. The caseback ring is engraved with the individual number and “EDITION SPECIALE” inscription. The blue aventurine dial features pink gold applied indices and pink gold skeletonized delta-shaped hour and minutes hands. Positioned at 6 o’clock is the combined small seconds and date display while the 12 o’clock is “reserved” for the moon phase window. The color of the moon disc matches the pink gold used for the hands and indices.

Powering the timepiece is the self-winding caliber PF318 with 28 jewels. Visible through the transparent sapphire caseback, it is decorated with Geneva waves, circular graining, and bevelled bridges. The movement itself operates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and offers a power reserve of approximately 50 hours. The Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda Métropolitaine Sélène Galaxy is presented on a blue fabric strap with stainless steel ardillon buckle.
