Pre-SIHH 2018: Three new watches from Ulysse Nardin

The year 2018 is quickly approaching and with it one of the most important watchmaking events – the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie. For the event’s 28th edition (Geneva, 15 – 19 January, 2018), Swiss watchmaker Ulysse Nardin has prepared three new models: Marine Torpilleur Military, Marine Tourbillon Blue Grand Feu, and Classico Manufacture Grand Feu.

Each version is limited to 300 pieces

Ulysse Nardin Marine Torpilleur Military represents a modern reinterpretation of the pocket chronometers favored by the sea captains of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century. Inspired by the elegance of vintage military timepieces, the watch comes in two 300-piece limited editions: one featuring an eggshell white dial with luminous Arabic numerals and black hands (ref. 1183-320LE/60) and the other with a black dial with orange Arabic numerals and SuperLumiNova-coated hands (ref. 1183-320LE/62). Each dial has the same layout: Hours, minutes, and small seconds at 6 o’clock. Inside the small seconds counter is a red serial number as well as the initials C.W. (Chronometer Watch) – a nod to the military models of the past. Both versions feature the same 44mm stainless steel case with fluted bezel and an oversized crown. On the back of each case  is a depiction of a Torpilleur boat.

Inside the new Ulysse Nardin Marine Torpilleur Military models we have the brand’s in-house made caliber UN-118. This 4Hz automatic movement has a power reserve of approximately 60 hours. The white-dialed model comes on a tan leather strap with white stitching, while the one with a black dial features a black leather strap with orange stitching. Each version is priced at CHF 7,900.

Next we have the Ulysse Nardin Marine Tourbillon Blue Grand Feu (ref. 1283-181/E3). Housed in a 43mm stainless steel case, this model features a wavy blue “Grand Feu” enamel dial with white Roman numerals. Displaying hours, minutes and power reserve at 12 o’clock, the dial is produced by the skilled craftsmen of Donzé Cadrans, Ulysse Nardin’s own enamel dial manufacturer. Another eye-catching detail of this watch is the magnificent flying tourbillon. Positioned at 6 o’clock, it is a tribute to the brand’s continual pursuit of mechanical excellence. All of the tourbillon’s parts, including the cage, screws, wheels and hairspring, are produced in-house by Ulysse Nardin. The new Marine Tourbillon Blue Grand Feu is powered by the caliber UN-128, a self-winding movement with a power reserve of 60 hours. Priced at CHF 28,000, the timepiece is presented on a stylish blue leather strap.

The former features black hands and markers while the latter has contrasting white hands and markers. The layout is the same on each dial: hours, minutes and small seconds at 6 o’clock. Inside the small seconds counter is the date window. Featuring the same 40mm stainless steel cases, both models are driven by the caliber UN-320.
