Bremont Endurance Limited Edition Watch 1

British watchmaker Bremont has just announced the arrival of the new 2018 collection. The series features 10 new watches but in this article we will be focusing on just one – the Endurance limited edition. The watch takes its inspiration from the legendary Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition (1914–17) led by Sir Ernest Shackleton. The British explorer was able to rescue his entire crew after his ship Endurance was trapped in ice. This achievement is considered to be one of the greatest stories of human endeavor and leadership. The name of the watch is also a nod to Bremont’s motto “Tested Beyond Endurance”. Restricted to 300 pieces, the new Bremont Endurance limited edition watch will be available to buy from May 2018. The timepiece will retail for $6,395 (excluding taxes).

The Bremont Endurance limited edition was developed with, and tested by, acclaimed British polar explorer Ben Saunders. Born in 1977, he has covered more than 6,000 km on polar expeditions since 2001. He is also the third and youngest person to reach the North Pole alone and on foot. Saunders is well acquainted with quality of Bremont watches. During the 2013/2014 Scott expedition (the longest human-powered polar journey in history) he wore a prototype Terra Nova GMT on his wrist. Like that model, the Endurance limited edition also features a case made of titanium. Saunders insisted on this material because of its strength and lightweight advantages. As someone who knows how beautifully finished the Bremont movements are, he also wanted for the watch to have a transparent case back. The brand designed one that doesn’t affect the watch’s water resistance and ability to function in rigorous climate conditions.

Housed in a 43mm satin and polished titanium case, the new Endurance limited edition is water resistant to 500 meters and features a bi-directional rotating compass bezel with Super-LumiNova. The case is also equipped with an automatic helium escape valve, crown protector, and Bremont’s patented anti-shock movement mount. Underneath the front sapphire crystal glass lies a highly legible black metal dial with applied indexes and Super-LumiNova coated hands. The dial displays hours, minutes, seconds, date (3 o’clock window) and features an additional 24h GMT hand. The GMT hand as well as the compass markers on the bezel (S, W, E) are in orange color. Also in orange, the North indicator is incorporated into the GMT hand.

Powering the new Bremont Endurance limited edition watch is the calibre BE-93-2AE with 21 jewels. Basically, this is a modified ETA 2893 with Anachron balance spring, Glucydur balance and Nivaflex 1 mainspring. Looking through the exhibition case back, the wearer can admire the beautifully skeletonized and decorated oscillating rotor. The movement itself beats at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and offers a power reserve of approximately 42 hours. The Bremont Endurance limited edition comes on either an orange NATO strap or titanium bracelet. Bremont has also provided an additional rubber “Temple Island” strap with either option. Each of the 300 models comes with C.O.S.C certification.
