For the upcoming Baselworld 2018, Swiss watchmaker Rado has prepared two new models: the HyperChrome Automatic Chronograph Limited Edition and True Thinline. These watches echo the overarching theme that will be presented at this year’s Basel watch fair, “Elements of Time”, whether it be the passing of time or passing of the seasons. The pricing details have not yet been announced.

Limited to 999 pieces, the new Rado HyperChrome Automatic Chronograph Limited Edition (ref. 650.0168.3.115) combines two seemingly contrasting watchmaking materials: ceramic and bronze. The watch’s case is made of high-tech matt black ceramic while bronze was used for the side inserts and chronograph pushers. When exposed to air and moisture over time, bronze develops a unique patina that reflects the wearer lifestyle. As the material ages and becomes darker, it creates a beautiful contrast to the matt black ceramic case. The high-tech ceramic used for this watch is extremely light, scratch resistant and hypoallergenic.

The HyperChrome Automatic Chronograph Limited Edition features a large 45mm matt black ceramic case. Water resistant to 100 meters, the case features a polished black ceramic bezel with engraved white tachymeter scale. On the back, there is a black ceramic case back engraved with “LIMITED EDITION ONE OUT OF 999″. Underneath the sapphire crystal lies a black dial with rose gold colored applied indexes and hands, both filled with white Super-LumiNova. The rose gold elements recall the subtle metallic sheen of the bronze. The dial features hours, minutes, small seconds at 3, 30-minute and 12-hour chronograph counters at 9 and 6 respectively, and a date window between 4 and 5 o’clock. Powering this Rado watch is the trustworthy caliber ETA 2894-2 with 42 hours of power reserve. The new HyperChrome Automatic Chronograph Limited Edition comes on a vintage-inspired brown leather strap with stainless steel extendable folding clasp.

The new Rado True Thinline (ref. 420.0006.3.091) was created in partnership with Grandi Giardini Italiani – an association that promotes the rich heritage of grand Italian gardens. The watch itself is very minimalistic. Water resistant to 30 meters, the super slim (only 5mm thick) 39mm case is made of polished green high-tech ceramic case. The case also features a yellow gold-colored PVD coated stainless steel crown and sandblasted titanium case back. The most eye-catching feature of the watch is its mesmerizing green dial. Crafted from green mother of pearl, the tone-on-tone dial features a delicate leaf structure printed onto its underside. The dial itself features only two yellow gold colored thin hands. The yellow gold colored indexes and Rado logo are metalized on the sapphire crystal, appearing to float effortlessly above the dial.

Instead of a mechanical movement, Rado has decided to equip this garden-inspired piece with a quartz caliber. Featuring 13 jewels, the highly precise ETA 282.002 quartz movement operates at a frequency of 32,728 Hz. Completing the new Rado True Thinline is an attractive 3-row polished green high-tech ceramic bracelet. The bracelet is secured with a titanium 3-fold clasp.
