SIHH 2018 – The new Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris collection

Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris 1

For 2018, Jaeger-LeCoultre has prepared a brand new series – the Polaris collection. Featuring sporty, but elegant models, the brand’s latest collection takes inspiration from the iconic Memovox Polaris watch. Introduced in 1968, this historic diving timepiece featured an innovative caseback designed to amplify the sound of the alarm underwater. The watch was particularly distinguished by its three crowns: one for the alarms, one for the movement, and one for the inner bezel.

Designed for today’s man of action, the new Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris collection features five versatile watches: a three-hand automatic, chronograph, chronograph world time, a date model, and a special 1,000 piece limited edition paying tribute to the 50th anniversary of the Memovox watch. The timepieces feature brand new cases, with proportions designed for a sports watch of today. Part brushed and part polished, they feature sharp lugs and thin, rounded bezels. The large crowns, characteristic of the original Memovox Polaris, have been redesigned for better grip. The new Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris watches are available with black or ocean blue dials. The dials all feature three differently finished concentric segments: a vintage-inspired center with a sunray finish, grain finished outer circle with the hours and minutes, and an opaline finished rotating inner bezel.

With its latest collection, the brand wants to redefine sporty elegance

Housed in a 41mm stainless steel case, the Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris Automatic features two crowns: one for the inner bezel and the other for setting the time. The dial here is very simple, just hours, minutes and seconds. Inside the watch we have the Caliber 898/1 with 40 hours of power reserve. The Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris Automatic is available with interchangeable leather straps, as well as with a stainless steel bracelet.

The Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris Chronograph is slightly larger and measures 42mm in diameter. This watch is available in two models: stainless steel and rose gold. The latter is the only Polaris watch to come in precious metal and the only one not to feature a black or blue dial. Instead it is equipped with an anthracite dial. The dial layout is the same on both versions: hours, minutes, seconds, 30-minute and 12-hour chronograph counters at 3 and 9 respectively, and a tachymeter scale running around the perimeter. The rose gold model comes on a brown leather strap while the steel version is available with both interchangeable leather straps and stainless steel bracelet.

The Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris Chronograph WT combines chronograph with the highly useful world time complication. The watch has a large 44mm titanium case with chronograph pushers at 2 and 4, and an additional pusher at 10 o’clock. The latter controls the rotating city disc, which you can set to the city you are in and instantly see the time in 23 other cities around the globe. The timepiece is available with interchangeable leather straps, as well as with a stainless steel bracelet.

And finally we have the two more vintage-themed pieces: Polaris Date and the Polaris Memovox. Both models feature a 42mm stainless steel case that is water resistant to 200 meters and have a black dial. Displaying hours, minutes, seconds and date at 3 o’clock, the dials are similar in design and feature several vintage-inspired details such as the trapezoidal indices combined with four Arabic numerals, the triangle at 12 o’clock and railway track for minutes. On both dials the luminous material is vanilla-colored as a tribute to the look of Tritium on the original Memovox Polaris. The dial on the Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris Memovox also features a triangle on the central disc. Using the alarm crown, the user can turn the triangle to line it up with the desired alarm time. Both models are presented on a black rubber strap. The Polaris Date is also available with a stainless steel bracelet.
