To celebrate the upcoming 85th birthday of its honorary president Jack Heuer, TAG Heuer is releasing a new special edition of its iconic Autavia watch – the Autavia Jack Heuer 85th Anniversary (ref. CBE 2111.BA0687). Limited to 1932 pieces – in reference to Jack’s birth year – the watch is set to be released on or around his 85th birthday which falls on November 17th. The timepiece will retail for $5,900. The number 1/1932 of the limited edition will be auctioned at the “Heuer Parade” auction organized by Phillips on the 11th of November in Geneva.

First introduced in 1962, the Autavia was the first watch designed by the great Jack Heuer. Distinguished by its innovative (for the time) rotating tachymeter bezel, the sports chronograph quickly gained an iconic status in the automotive world and was worn by some of the greatest Formula 1 drivers of the 1960s and 1970s such as Mario Andretti,  Gilles Villeneuve, Graham Hill, Jacky Ickx, and many others. The watch remained in production until 1986. To this day, the Autavia remains one of the most sought-after collector’s chronographs.

Throughout the history, the Autavia has always appealed to automotive enthusiasts

Now in 2017, this iconic piece is making its comeback. Earlier this year we saw the release of the first reissue, the reference CBE2110.FC8226. This launch was preceded by a marketing campaign called the Autavia Cup, where customers and collectors could vote on which historic Autavia watch they want to see re-released. The new reissue has been designed by Jack Heuer himself. He was involved in creating the watch to share his rich expertise and his personal “mark” on the model. Both modern and faithful to its roots, the TAG Heuer Autavia Jack Heuer 85th Anniversary successfully captures the spirit of golden age of motor racing. It combines the DNA and aesthetic codes of the original with the functions suited to modern users. According to Jack Heuer, this is the last watch that he has created.

On the back there is a solid caseback engraved with Jack Heuer’s family seal and signature. Beating at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour, this self-winding movement offers a power reserve of approximately 80 hours. The watch is presented on a sporty 7-row stainless steel bracelet. The bracelet is secured with a stainless steel ardillon buckle with Heuer logo.
