Renowned Swiss watchmaker Vacheron Constantin has recently expanded its iconic Historiques collection with three exciting new watches: the Historiques American 1921 – 36.5 mm, the Historiques Triple calendrier 1942, and the Historiques Triple calendrier 1948. Inspired by the brand’s Vacheron Constantin’s rich watchmaking heritage, the new models reinterpret the creativity and the design of the brand’s iconic watches created in 1920’s and 1940’s respectively. On October 4th, 2017, the Swiss watchmaker held an international preview of its new Historiques models at the legendary Hôtel de Crillon. In the salons of the iconic Parisian hotel, clients and members of the press had an exclusive opportunity not just to see the new watches, but try them as well. The new Vacheron Constantin Historiques American 1921 – 36.5 mm is a faithful reinterpretation of the iconic Historiques American 1921. Designed in the roaring twenties, the original model was created for an American client with a passion for cars. The watch featured a cushion-shaped shaped case and a highly-distinctive angled dial which allowed users to read the indices without having to release the hand from the steering wheel. The dial was angled at 45 degrees, displacing the crown to between 1 and 2 o’clock, and the small seconds counter to between 4 and 5 o’clock.

The 2017 model also has these features but in a smaller package. Designed for those with the slimmest wrists, the new Historiques American 1921 – 36.5 mm comes in a pink gold case that is water resistant to 30 meters. Beating inside the timepiece is the caliber 4400 AS. Developed and manufactured by Vacheron Constantin, this manual-winding movement beats at a frequency of 28,800 and delivers a power reserve of approximately 65 hours. Priced at $29,200, Historiques American 1921 – 36.5 mm is available with two alligator leather straps: brown and red.

Next we have the two triple calendar models. Equipped with a complete calendar, the Historiques Triple calendrier 1942 and the Historiques Triple calendrier 1948 feature a typical Vacheron Constantin complication and style from 1940’s. The former is inspired by the 1942 reference 4240, while the latter takes its inspiration from the reference 4240L which first appeared in 1948. Both watches feature a round case with triple gadroons, “claw-type” lugs, two-tone dial, and a manual-winding movement. Each case is 40mm wide and water resistant to 30 meters.

Function-wise, the only difference is that the Historiques Triple calendrier 1948 also displays moon phase. The calendar functions, and the moon disc on the gold model, are displayed in a choice of two colors: burgundy or dark blue. Both the Historiques Triple calendrier 1942 and the Historiques Triple calendrier 1948 are available with two alligator leather straps: brown and dark blue. Priced at $18,400, the steel model will be released as a non-limited edition. Priced at $33,800, the gold model will be available in two limited editions of 200 pieces each.
