Tommorow marks the beginning of one of the world’s biggest and most important car shows – the International Geneva Motor Show. The press days are on March 7 and 8 while the show will be open to general public from March 9 to 19. At the occasion of the 87th Geneva Motor Show, Zenith and Land Rover are celebrating their collaboration by unveiling the new Chronomaster El Primero Range Rover Velar Special Edition. Coming after the last year’s El Primero Range Rover, this is the second Zenith watch dedicated to the iconic British car brand. Zenith’s CEO Jean-Claude Biver and Gerry McGovern, Land Rover Chief Design Officer, both expressed their delight over the new collaborative watch and underlined the importance of preserving tradition while welcoming innovation and changes.
As its name implies, the latest Zenith watch celebrates the release of the new Range Rover Velar. The fourth model in the Range Rover line, the luxury mid-size crossover SUV will be officially introduced at the 87th Geneva Motor Show, with it being available to buy from summer 2017. The Range Rover Velar features a new visual style inspired the brand’s previous designs that began with the Evoque model. Featuring smoother lines, the Velar has the lowest height of all Range Rover models. The interior of the car is more driver-oriented, with the seating position lower than any Land Rover ever. Overall, the Range Rover Velar is designed with on-road performance and sportiness in mind.
Influenced by ideas from both companies’ design and product divisions, the Zenith Chronomaster El Primero Range Rover Velar Special Edition comes in a round 42 mm ceramised aluminum case. Water resistant to 100 meters, the case features two pushers at 2 and 4, and a crown at 3 o’clock. On the front, we have a domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment on both sides. The back of the watch features a transparent sapphire crystal caseback. Beneath the front sapphire crystal lies a beautiful brushed grey dial with copper-toned details. For increased nighttime legibility, the hour markers, as well as hour and minutes hands, have all been filled with luminous material. The dial display central hours, minutes, small seconds at 9, central chronograph seconds, 30-minute counter at 3 and date at 6 o’clock. Completing the dial is the tachymeter scale running around its edge.
The new Zenith Chronomaster El Primero Range Rover Velar Special Edition is powered by the caliber El Primero 400B. Featuring 326 components and 31 jewels, this self-winding movement beats at a superb frequency of 36,600 vibrations per hour and enables a power reserve of at least 50 hours. The movement can be seen through the transparent caseback. There we can see the special oscillating weight with circular satin-brushed motif and Zenith & Range Rover logos. The Chronomaster El Primero Range Rover Velar Special Edition is completed with an elegant black rubber strap coated with black-toned perforated calfskin. The strap is secured by a black DLC-treated titanium triple folding clasp.
