Ateliers deMonaco unveils the unique Tourbillon Casino de Monte-Carlo

Sandwiched between the Alps and the Mediterranean Sea, Monte Carlo is one of the most prestigious locations in the world. The home of celebrities and billionaires from all over the world, this tax haven features numerous iconic landmarks such as the Monte Carlo Harbor, Circuit de Monaco, Hôtel de Paris and many more. Positioned right next to the legendary hotel is another iconic landmark: the Casino de Monte-Carlo. To honor one of the most symbolic places of the Principality, the Geneva based watch manufacturer Ateliers deMonaco decided to produce a unique piece called Tourbillon Casino de Monte-Carlo.

Located on the plateau des Spélugues, between the Pavillon, the Café de Paris and the Hôtel de Paris, the Casino de Monte-Carlo includes a casino, opera house, as well as a classical ballet company. Marking the beginning of the city’s social life, the legendary building was created in 1863. Designed by the Parisian architect Gobineau de la Bretonnerie, it was redesigned several times until it reached its present form in 1910. Today the Casino de Monte-Carlo is managed by the Société des Bains de Mer, a public company majority-owned by the Monaco government and the ruling family. Until recently, it has been the primary source of income for the House of Grimaldi and the country’s economy. An iconic landmark, the Casino de Monte-Carlo has often been represented in popular culture. It served as a filming location for numerous classic movies, including several James Bond films like GoldenEye and Never Say Never Again.

The Casino’s design has been pretty much unchanged for almost 120 years

The most alluring feature of the new Ateliers deMonaco Tourbillon Casino de Monte-Carlo is, without doubt, its mesmerizing dial. Made of 18K solid white gold, it features a carefully engraved depiction of the Casino of Monte-Carlo. The dial itself is comprised of three superposed plates creating an astonishing relief. The first layer displays the palm tree avenue and the casino’s steps. Instead of the iconic fountain, an opening on the tourbillon’s cage reveals the sapphire bridge. The second layer shows the building’s facade as well as its two signature domes. And finally we have the third plate decorated with the sky and the clouds that overhang the landmark.

The latest Ateliers deMonaco Tourbillon Casino de Monte-Carlo is housed inside a 44 mm 18K white gold case with ultralight titanium core. Water resistant to 30 meters, the case features a brushed finish that emphasizes the hand-engraving on the dial. Only the watch’s edges are polished. Secured with 4 screws, the caseback is hand-engraved with the inscription ” Pièce Unique Casino de Monte-Carlo”. The dial features white gold dauphine, a tourbillon opening at 6, and applied lozenge hour markers that resemble the brand’s emblem as well as the crest of Monaco. Inside the watch we have the caliber dMc-980 equipped with the patented “eXtreme Precision 1 minute” tourbillon. One of the first patented mechanisms of Ateliers deMonaco, the Tourbillon XP1 is renowned for its accuracy of 0-2 seconds per 24 hours. This outstanding accuracy makes Tourbillon XP1 one of the most precise tourbillon movements in the world. The Ateliers deMonaco Tourbillon Casino de Monte-Carlo is presented with a stylish hand-stitched alligator leather strap.
