Baume & Mercier expands Linea collection

Two new stunning ladies’ watches have joined the Linea collection by Baume & Mercier. While they do have several things in common, such as the choice of steel and diamonds for the case, they each have differing characters. The Swiss company has prepared a ‘day’ model with bright sunshine on the dial, and a nocturnal blue timepiece that’s slightly more complicated, featuring a moon phase indicator. Both are limited editions, though – only 100 watches per version are available.

Sun and waves, a beautiful combination

If we just focus on the shape and size of the case, the two new Lineas are nearly identical. These are both 32 mm steel cases, with a nice polished and satin finish. However, there is a difference in their thickness. The blue Linea is slightly “chubbier” (9.26 mm) than its solar counterpart (7.72 mm). On the back, we can see the solid case-back, with limited edition engravings. As for the water resistance, both models can be submerged in water up to approximately 50 meters.

When we look at the dial, this is where the watches show their different characters. First, let’s focus on the sunlight watch. This timepiece features natural Mother of Pearl as its background, with Champlevé finish, on which we can spot two things: on the upper part, the sun with its rays expanding across the dial and ultimately falling onto the waves on the lower part of the dial, the second major visual feature. The latter is comprised of brilliant-cut diamonds, which extend onto the bezel, representing continuation of sun rays and the waves. Finally, we have a pair of elegant Dauphine hand, matching the case.

Blue Mother of Pearl, complemented with a moon phase indicator

On the other hand, we have a Linea timepiece with a blue Mother of Pearl dial, depicting night sky, complete with shining stars, some of them being rhodium-plated appliques with diamonds. Like with the previous model, we can also see the wave of brilliant-cut diamonds on the lower half of the dial. Just like the sunshine version, the dial also sports a Champlevé finish, and the hands are also Dauphine type, matching the case. But what’s different is the moon phase indicator, located just above the center of the dial. On the bezel, we can see the diamonds, the lower ones representing a continuation of the waves from the dial, while on the upper section there are two arcs of diamonds, completed with engraved ‘12’. Finally, the dial is protected with a domed, antireflective sapphire crystal.

The watch comes with an additional steel bracelet

As for the movement, both Lineas use a quartz movement, with the blue model having an added moon phase complication. When it comes to the straps, we’re presented with several different materials. The sunshine watch has a pearly white calfskin leather strap, while the moon phase timepiece features a Night blue satin strap. Both have pin buckles. What’s also important is also the self-interchangeable system, which makes it easier to swap different straps. Baume & Mercier offers an additional steel bracelet with satin finish, which nicely complements the case. The bracelet features a triple folding clasp, together with security push pieces.
