Hamilton Khaki X-Patrol – are you ready to fly this high?

Before you start reading, you have to do a couple of things. Firstly, put your Ray Bans on, even if you’re inside. Then, change your name to Maverick and go back to the eighties. Finally, play “Highway to the Danger Zone” by Kenny Loggins.

Okay, I think you’re ready. I present to you the all-American Hamilton Khaki X-Patrol, a watch for speed and clouds. For the aviator.

To start with, it would be quite inadequate and imprecise to call Khaki  X-Patrol a timepiece, for that would imply it simply measures the hours, minutes and seconds of your average day. But, this is not your average sports watch. For this baby, time is only the tip of the iceberg – it can measure anything you please! You say you can go the distance – check the exact length in nautical or statute miles and kilometers. Want to touch the sky? See how close you are in feet or meters. You want to know how heavy your load is? Measure the volume in gallons and liters or weight in pounds and kilograms. This is for a global man who needs all the information, and needs it fast – just by turning the bezel and unscrewing the crown at 9 o’clock. As for the movement, Khaki X-Patrol sports the new H21 caliber which promises accuracy and power reserve of 60 hours. So, as you can see, we lied: this is not just for a pilot, it’s for every thrill-seeking individual, including swimmers and snorklers – did we mention the 100m water-resistance? Well, now we did.

Moving on to design – this watch looks seriously sophisticated. No need for gold or diamonds – just quality. The dials are either black or silver, with contrasting reflectors and three round chronograph discs dominate the face of the watch. The protective cover over the face is made of sapphire with anti-reflective coating. Your wrist would be a home to an elegant black leather strap with white stitching, black rubber attachment or metal bracelet. Finally, the look is complete with an aviation-inspired detail in shape of a propeller in the back.

Finally, here is a little bit of history for you. Hamilton is a brand with solid tradition, founded in 1892 in Pennsylvania, the “oil state” of the USA. This year they celebrate 120 years in the horology business. Here is a piece of trivia for you, in case you thought we overdid it with the movie references in the beginning. We have a very good excuse. Hollywood is a big fan of Hamilton’s, and its watches have adorned various wrists in 400 films, including Men in Black, Ocean’s Eleven, Amelia, Quantum of Solace, and it even appeared in the TV show House M.D. What we’re trying to say is: the coolest characters of the screen wore it.

Inspired by the vast, unexplored skies, Hamilton has decided to celebrate its 120th anniversary by amazing us with a new aviation timepiece. Have they succeeded? You be the judge of whether this watch can be a reliable co-pilot.
