Here come the commandos: Bell & Ross BR 03-92 and BR 03-94

As a brand with relatively short history in the watch industry, Bell & Ross has managed to build a strong and successful company, focusing on making quality, reliable and above all professional watches. The BR line is well-known to all who appreciate  of tough and sturdy watches, and now the company has added 2 more timepieces to this collection: BR 03-92 Commando and slightly more feature-packed BR 03-94 Commando.

The first thing that comes to one’s mind when watching these pieces is how strong and durable they look. After all, these are marketed as aviation watches for professional use. Bell & Ross claims that these watches are perfect for camouflage too. Seems like some big tasks are ahead of them! But it’s not just the looks Bell & Ross is trying to impress us with. No, these watches are built well and meant to last. Looking at the specifications, there should be no room for any doubts about their capabilities.

Let’s start off with the simpler model, the BR 03-92. First thing we notice is its beautiful 42 mm stainless steel case with matte black PVD finish. The grey dial nicely complements the case, and photo-luminescent coating of numerals, index and hands is a nice addition. Automatic mechanical movement powers this piece, and a small circular date window is located at the bottom right part of the watch.

Another nice feature is the anti-reflective sapphire glass. This ensures the crystal clear readability, and it means a lot to anyone who spends a lot of time outdoors. Moving on to the strap, the company utilized grey rubber and black heavy-duty synthetic fabric. It makes for a firm grip, which definitely won’t disappoint you. A pin buckle is used, and following the same technology as the case, it is made of stainless steel with matte black PVD finish. Another aspect of this watch’s durability is its water resistance – a decent 100 meters, not in the top of the class, but decent enough for everyday needs, and maybe even slightly more extreme ones. After all, these pieces are going to spend their lifetime high up in the air, so it’s understandable that the company didn’t focus on water-resistance that much.

03-94 features twin-counter chronograph

The BR 03-94 is its slightly more feature-packed sibling. Almost identical in appearance, but with one very important addition: the chronograph. The company opted for two-counter chronograph, with 60-second and 30-minute accumulators. The design is almost identical to the 92 version, with the exception of 94 having 2 chronograph dials, and the two buttons on the side of the case for activating them.

Overall, one would say the two pieces are very simplistic, design-wise. After all, these are professional watches, that will be used by army, where camouflage is of crucial importance. With its choice of colors and finishes, it really fits the uniforms. Bell & Ross calls them “the ideal camouflage watches”. Perfect for professionals, but also for anyone who doesn’t like flashy timepieces, and just wants a sturdy and reliable watch.
