A few days ago, the Swiss watchmaker Hublot released a new exciting collection: the Classic Fusion Italia Independent. Made in collaboration with the renowned Italian design company Italia Independent, the collection features 6 new watches in 3 different materials: black ceramic with black and white glen plaid (100 pieces limited edition) or blue and red “Tartan” woolen dial and strap (50 pieces limited edition), 18k King Gold with black and white glen plaid (50 pieces limited edition) or dark “Tartan” (50 pieces limited edition) and finally a titanium with black and white “Houndstooth” (100 pieces limited edition) or blue and red Glen plaid dial and strap (50 pieces limited edition). Hublot will officially introduce its new collection next month at the Baselworld 2017. The pricing is yet to be revealed.
The new Hublot Classic Fusion Italia Independent is the third watch collection the two brands have made since 2014. Unlike previous versions, which were inspired by the iconic Big Bang Unico, the new watches are based on the Classic Fusion model. The Classic Fusion Italia Independent timepieces represent a tribute to Italian elegance and the unmatched style of Italia Independent’s founder Lapo Elkann. Dubbed as the “most elegant man in the world”, he is known for his innovative designs and fashion flair.
The new Hublot Classic Fusion watches feature beautiful woolen dials and straps. The fabrics used here have been supplied by the legendary Italian tailor Rubinacci. Founded by Gennaro Rubinacci in 1932, the brand has dressed numerous celebrities and VIP’s such as the Duke of Kent and Bryan Ferry. Gennaro’s grandson Luca was in charge of picking the materials for the new watch collection. He decided to go for a vintage looking wool. When choosing these fabrics, he was thinking about the costumes his brand makes for Lapo Elkann. The vivid tartan gives the watch a sporty feel while the houndstooth and glen plaid (also known as “Prince of Wales” ) give it a more traditional look. The black and white dials and straps also represent a tribute to the colors of the Italian football giant Juventus – Lapo Elkann’s favorite sports team.
The new Hublot Classic Fusion Italia Independent watches all feature the same 45mm case. Featuring polished and brushed surfaces as well as the Hublot’s signature round bezel with 6 titanium H-screws, the case is water resistant to 50 meters. The case is also equipped with two push buttons at 2 and 4 o’clock and crown decorated with Hublot logo. On the back we have a solid caseback engraved with the limited edition number. The woolen dials feature ruthenium hands and indexes. They display hours, minutes, small seconds at 3 and chronograph functions including central chronograph seconds and 30-minute counter at 9 o’clock. Finishing the dial we have the date window sitting at 6 o’clock. Powering the Hublot Classic Fusion Italia Independent watches is the Calibre HUB1143. Based on the ETA’s 2892-A2, this self-winding chronograph movement beats at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and enables a power reserve of 42 hours.
