Hublot goes VIP: Costa Smeralda limited edition

It’s been 50 years since Prince Karim Aga Khan arrived on the northern coast of the Italian island of Sardinia with a goal of making it an exclusive tourist destination. After creating Costa Smeralda Consortium, the place soon became a top destination for the world’s jetsetters. As a tribute to this special occasion, Hublot issued two very special timepieces, and both only in limited editions of 100 numbered pieces. And summer of course  is a great time to present gold and diamond watches like these. Big Bang Costa Smeralda will appeal to ladies, while King Power Costa Smeralda will find its way to gentlemen wrists.

Such exclusive watches deserve exlusive treatment, and Hublot made sure to promote it with style. After all, quality, beauty and prestige are just some of the values Hublot and Costa Smeralda have in common, so the combination just felt natural. A lavish party was organized by the famous Cala Di Volpe Starwood Hotel, and on top off it all, Elton John entertained the guests with a special performance.

But enough with the fancy VIP stuff, and onto the true stars of the evening; the two limited edition Hublot pieces. With just 100 pieces per model, only the selected will be able to enjoy them. And they will be impressed! To start off the with the ladies’ choice: the Big Bang Costa Smeralda features a polished, satin-finished 18K red gold case, measuring 41 mm in diameter. The removable bezel is also made out of 18K red gold, and is set with 319 diamonds. Very classy! The movement utilized is the HUB1141 Flyback Chronograph with mechanical self-winding. A very neat detail on the case-back is the personalised crystal with the Porto Cervo Marina exclusive logo. Overall, 280 components are included, to make this watch a supreme testimony to luxury and elegance.

King Power Costa Smeralda features a 48 mm case in satin-finished 18K King Gold. Bezel is satin-finished 18K King Gold with white rubber moulding. HUB4214 Skeleton chronograph with mechanical self-winding is in charge of the movement. Hublot decided to use openwork dial skeleton, and overall 257components were used, just slightly less than its lady-counterpart.

Both pieces have a white alligator leather strap with white stitching. Big Bang uses an 18K red gold clasp, while King Power has a 18K King Gold clasp. But aside from the luxury, Hublot made sure the watches are strong enough, and having that in mind, provided water resistance up to 100 meters. The power reserve is 42 hours. Both watches feature 6 H-shaped titanium screws on their bezels, which give impression of sturdiness and strength. These watches are not just good looking and luxurious – they will last long time to boot.

There’s no doubt that Costa Smeralda timepieces will find their way to customers. Those very rich ones, that is. Yachts, mansions, lovely resorts – the Hublots will feel at home. Meanwhile, mortals like you and I will only dream of these beauties, but certainly, just looking at them makes you apreciate them, like modern works of art.
