The historic  Swiss luxury watch brand Manufacture Royale has just announced the launching of an exciting new collection called the ADN Street Art and as you have guessed already, it is inspired by today’s street art. Throughout history, people have shared their thoughts in many forms such as essays, books and various plays for public consumption. Today we can express our ideas via digital technologies as well as public spaces in the form of street art. As Voltaire, the French philosopher who established Manufacture Royale in 1770, said “writing is the painting of the voice”. As traditional mediums give way to digital technologies, alternative mediums like concrete emerge, decorated with 3-D chalk, paint, projection and yarn. Street art represents a new form of expression for today’s artists.

Thanks to the high level of customization, each timepiece is unique

The new Manufacture Royale ADN Street Art watches represent canvases for personal expressions. Featuring several overlapping squares, the skeleton of the movement can be customized with whatever design a customer wants. This makes each ADN Street Art timepiece special and unique. The watch’s overlapping squares are painted using hydrographics or water transfer printing. A water soluble film with a printed pattern is placed on the water’s surface in a container. After that, an activator substance is added, dissolving the film that the motif is printed on, leaving only the ink on the surface of the water. After the skeleton squares have been submerged into water, the ink wraps around them and adheres. The final step is removing the components from water and rinsing and rhodium plating them. The result of this process are beautifully decorated components that emphasize the movement’s skeleton architecture.
