Panerai launches three new Luminor 1950 PCYC Chronographs

Luminor 1950 PCYC 1

For the last 12 years, Panerai has been the major sponsor of the Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge (PCYC). Open only to vintage and classic yachts, as well as replicas of them, it features 10 prestigious classic yacht regattas divided into two circuits – Mediterranean and North American. The event also features two independent regattas: the Panerai British Classic Week and Antigua Classic Yacht Regatta. To celebrate the 2017 edition of the Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge, the Florentine watchmaker is launching a special dedicated collection. Created for all who love classic sailing yachts, the new Luminor 1950 PCYC Chronographs are now available to buy at the brand’s boutiques and authorized Panerai dealers.

Each model is presented with a stylish natural leather strap

The Panerai Luminor 1950 PCYC Regatta 3 Days Chrono Flyback Automatic Titanio (PAM00652) has a large 47 mm case. Made of brushed titanium, the case is water resistant to 100 meters. Contributing to the water resistance is Panerai’s characteristic lever device that protects the winding crown. On the back we have a screwed titanium caseback engraved with a classic yacht and the “PANERAI CLASSIC YACHTS CHALLENGE” inscription. Beneath the sapphire crystal is a black dial with luminous Arabic numerals and hour markers. In addition to the central hours, and minutes, the dial also features central chronograph seconds and minutes hand, 12-hour chronograph counter at 3 o’clock, and small seconds subdial at 9 o’clock. Running around the edge of the dial is a tachymeter scale in knots that enables the user to measure the yacht’s average speed.

The 47 mm model is the only of the three that features the countdown regatta function

Inside this model is the caliber P.9100/R with 37 jewels. Designed and developed by the Panerai Manufacture in Neuchâtel, this remarkable caliber features the regatta countdown function. The movement itself beats at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and offers a power reserve of 72 hours. The timepiece is finished with a stylish brown natural leather strap. Secured with a titanium clasp buckle, the strap features beige stitching to match the dial accents. The Panerai Luminor 1950 PCYC Regatta 3 Days Chrono Flyback Automatic Titanio (PAM00652) retails for $17,200.

The caseback engraving is same on all watches

Next we have the two Panerai Luminor 1950 PCYC 3 Days Chrono Flyback Automatic Acciaio watches: the ref. PAM00654 and the ref. PAM00653. Both these models are 44 mm in diameter and feature stainless steel cases that are water resistant to 100 meters. Both watches have the same caseback as the 47 mm model. Panerai’s trademark crown protecting lever device is present on each version. The dial of the PAM00654 is ivory with beige and blue accents, while the PAM00653 features a black dial with beige accents. There is also a difference in hour markers: the black dial features Arabic numerals, while the beige option has dots and batons (for the 6 and 12 o’clock). Powering the two Panerai Luminor 1950 PCYC 3 Days Chrono Flyback Automatic Acciaio watches is the caliber P.9100, a 4 Hz automatic movement similar to the P.9100/R, but without the countdown regatta function. Both priced at $12,300, the PAM00654 and PAM00653 each come on an elegant brown natural leather strap.
