As we’re approaching the SIHH 2018, more and more brands are unveiling their novelties for one of the most important events in the world of Haute Horlogerie. In this article we will be taking a look at one of the new 2018 models from Vacheron Constantin – the Overseas Dual Time. As its name implies, the new Vacheron Constantin Overseas Dual Time is a watch that enables simultaneous reading of two time zones. The local time is indicated by the hour hand while home time is shown by an additional central hand tipped with a red triangular arrow. In addition to the dual time zone complication, the watch also features a pointer-type date display and a user-friendly and straightforward day/night indicator.

All of these functions are possible thanks to Vacheron Constantin’s brand new caliber 5110 DT. A result of several years of development, this ingenious mechanical movement is designed for smooth and easy handling. The time can be moved both forward and backwards. When in the position 1, the crown (3 o’clock) can adjust the local time. Meanwhile, pulling the crown into the second position allows the user to set the minutes for both time zones. The day/night indicator is linked to the home time whyle the date display is synchronized with local time. The date can be easily adjusted by pressing the screw-lock pusher at 4 o’clock.

Both stainless steel and pink gold cases feature a six-sided bezel evoking Vacheron Constantin’s iconic Maltese cross emblem. Through the sapphire caseback, the wearer can admire the movement’s remarkable architecture, including the 22K gold Overseas oscillating weight. Underneath the front sapphire glass is a translucent blue/silver-toned lacquered dial with gold hour-markers and hours & minutes hands filled with white Super-LumiNova. The layout of the dial is very pleasing and user-friendly. In addition to hours, minutes and seconds, the watch displays second time zone, date at 6 o’clock, and day/night indication at 9 o’clock.
