In the past couple of years, Carl F. Bucherer has been actively supporting the Manta Trust, a non-profit organization dedicated to conserving manta rays. The UK charity also works on raising the awareness and educating the general public about these magnificent but vulnerable sea animals. Today Carl F. Bucherer is proud to introduce a special edition watch dedicated to this great organization – the Patravi ScubaTec Manta Trust. The new timepiece is issued in a limited edition of 188 pieces. Priced at CHF 5,900, it is available at the authorized Carl F. Bucherer retailers. By purchasing this piece, the users not only become owners of a cool diving watch; they also contribute to the organization’s cause.

With part of the profits from the sale of the new Patravi ScubaTec Manta Trust, Carl F. Bucherer will finance a new type of scientific expedition during which information will be collected that will help to protect the natural environment of the manta rays. The expedition will take place next month in the waters surrounding the Maldives. During this two-week mission, a team will be monitoring the manta ray population to study their environment and feeding habits, as well as the planktonic prey on which these animals feed. Using cutting-edge science, the researchers will collect data that will play a great role in ensuring the survival of this magnificent species. Thanks to this expedition, Manta Trust will be able to expand its database of over 4,000 recorded individual manta rays in the Maldives.

The manta rays depicted on the casebacks were photographed by Manta Trust CEO Guy Stevens

Ok, now back to the watch, shall we? The new Carl F. Bucherer Patravi ScubaTec Manta Trust is placed inside a 44.6 mm stainless steel case. Thanks to the automatic helium valve as well as the screw down crown and caseback, the watch is able to withstand a pressure of 50 bar (500 meters). The case also is also equipped with a black ceramic bezel. On the back we have a solid caseback decorated with an engraving depicting the pattern on the stomach of a specific individual manta ray photographed underwater by Manta Trust CEO Guy Stevens and his team. Each caseback is unique and features a different identification number. Using this number, the owners can access to a website where they can choose a name for the manta ray related to the timepiece.

The first 15 minutes on the bezel’s diving scale match the dark grey dial

Beneath the double AR-coated sapphire crystal is a dark grey ridged dial decorated with two black manta rays. The dial itself has a simple and highly legible layout with hours, minutes, central seconds and date window at 3 o’clock. Beating inside the new Patravi ScubaTec Manta Trust is the caliber CFB 1950.1 with 25 jewels. Based on the n chronometer certified ETA 2824-2, the self-winding movement oscillates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and enables a power reserve of 38 hours. Completing the latest Carl F. Bucherer diving piece is a sporty black rubber strap. The strap is secured with a finely adjustable stainless steel diving folding clasp.
