In honor of two of its numerous sports ambassadors, the Swiss high-end watchmaker Richard Mille has created two new incredibly light timepieces – the RM 67-02 Sprint and RM 67-02 High Jump. Dedicated to Olympic medalists Wayde van Niekerk and Mutaz Essa Barshim respectively, they are the lightest automatic watches in the Richard Mille collection, weighing only 32 grams each! The new RM 67-02 Sprint and RM 67-02 High Jump models can now be bought from the brand’s boutiques and official retailers. The price for both of them is, well…typical Richard Mille-esque :) . They each retail for $120,500.

Born in 1992, Wayde van Niekerk is a South African sprinter who competes in the 200 meters and 400 meters. The world champion, Olympic gold medalist and current world record holder in the 400 meters, he is the only person in history to have run the 100 m in under 10 seconds, the 200 m in under 20 seconds and the 400 m in under 44 seconds! On the other hand, Mutaz Essa Barshim specializes in the high jump. The 26-year old Qatari is the national record and Asian record holder and has won a bronze and silver medal at the 2012 and 2016 Olympics, respectively. Both athletes were actively involved in the design of their signature timepieces. After all, they will be wearing them during their respective events at the upcoming IAAF World Championships in London (4-13 August, 2017).

Like many Richard Mille watches, the RM 67-02 Sprint and RM 67-02 High Jump are characterized by the use of high tech materials and technologies. The front and back bezels are made from an innovative material called Quartz TPT while the middle part of each case features carbon TPT. These strong but ultra-light materials are extremely resistant to high temperatures, shocks, and magnetic waves. The base plates, bridges, as well as the screws securing the cases, are all made in Grade 5 titanium. The new RM 67-02 Sprint and RM 67-02 High Jump each come on a so-called “comfort strap”. Designed for extreme wearer comfort, the ultra-light straps are highly elastic, which allows them to perfectly fit any wrist.

Both new Richard Mille watches have the same 38.7mm x 47.52mm case that is water resistant to 30 meters. The sapphire case back of each model reveals some of the movement’s components, particularly the oscillating rotor made of Carbon TPT and white gold. The front and back part of each case is painted to match the flags of the athletes’ respective home countries. The RM 67-02 High Jump has a dark red and white case while the RM 67-02 Sprint features a case painted in green and yellow. The latest Richard Mille timepieces are powered by the caliber CRMA7 with 25 jewels. Made mostly out of titanium, this skeletonized self-winding movement operates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and enables a power reserve of approximately 50 hours. The Richard Mille RM 67-02 Sprint and RM 67-02 High Jump are available with a green and white comfort strap respectively.
