Richard Mille – Limited edition “Dark Diver”

It’s been a few months since we last wrote about Richard Mille (since we reported on their very cool Formula 1’s Felipe Massa model from SIHH). Richard Mille, a relative newcomer to the world of high ended watch making (founded in 2001) but an instant contender didn’t take long to wow us with another stunning release. Fans of their RM 032 automatic diver chronograph will be ecstatic about the menacing makeover it has received, a rightfully named “Dark Diver“. This Limited edition Richard Mille 032 Chronograph Dive Watch is restricted to 30 pieces and it debuts this summer. Exclusively at the Richard Mille Beverly Hills boutique, this brand new RM 032 will be presented for all interested potential buyers to check out. Specially designed for all diver watch enthusiasts out there, this customized timepiece is more than satisfying from both visual and spec points of view. Like the previous model, this one is 30 ATM (300 meters) water resistant.  Usually it is very difficult to create a diving watch with a chronograph feature due to the possibility of extreme water pressure on pushers accidentally activating the chronograph. Richard Mille got around this pesky problem by developing a unique locking crown that secures the watch from accidental activation of the chronograph on all the 032 models. Chronograph can be activated by simply rotating the ring with crown and unlocking the activating button.  Caliber RMAC2 already used in other RM032 models previously is once again presented in this watch. The automatic movement is assembled into a 50 millimeters in diameter tripartite titanium case and sports a power reserve of 50 hours (45 if chronograph feature is used often). Case design is similar to the previous 032 models (50 mm x 17.80 mm), but this time it’s completely black. Part of it’s mechanism is visible through a sapphire crystal dial which adds to it’s elegance. On the inner rim of the dial there is a tachymeter scale which is used to calculate owner’s speed based on passed time or measure distance based on speed (perhaps if you are very bored on your fancy speedboat).

By pressing the button located between 4 and 5 o’clock you reset the running chronograph without stopping the mechanism. There is also an oversized date window displayed in a white square bellow the 12 o’clock position. An automatic adjustment for months that have 30 or 31 days, and calendar is also standard.  Unidirectional bezel found on most diver watches is present here as well. The watch is made of three layers and is “bolted” with 22 screws. A robust black rubber strap provides for both security and comfort. Naturally, the indices are generously coated with superluminova. The same goes for the dial and hands providing enhanced visibility in low light conditions. The entire watch, in all its detail, is made by strict ISO 6425 diver’s watch norms, which means that “Dark Diver” will be more than adequate for your deep sea adventures. You are likely curious how much something like this would set you back, but for that you will have to wait for the official event at Richard Mille Beverly Hills Boutique and see the price-tag of this unique model. Perhaps at the same time you’ll find out if a celebrity or two pick up one of these Limited edition jewels.
