Roar! Arnold & Son TB Tiger

Arnold & Son TB Tiger

Check out this cool watch from Arnold & Son, called the TB Tiger. It’s a fantastic-looking watch that shows what this company is capable of when it comes to engraving and painting. Namely, the watch features a majestic tiger on its dial, made of solid 22-carat rose gold. This appliqué was hand-engraved by Arnold & Son’s master engraver, and its black stripes were painted by hand. Another important thing on this timepiece is its movement, with true-beat seconds and an off-centered indicator for hours and minutes. The TB Tiger is quite a special watch and the availability confirms that – there are only 28 watches in this series.

The new timepiece is part of Arnold & Son’s Instrument collection, which comprises watches inspired by chronometers made by John Roger, John Arnold’s son. These chronometers were made in the latter part of Roger’s career, and they were designed in such way that they could survive the challenges of the marine voyages.

Now, let’s get back to the TB Tiger, shall we? The new addition to the Instrument collection is equipped with a 44 mm case, made of 18-carat rose gold. On the right side of the case, we’ll notice a matching crown, while on the back, we have a sapphire crystal that lets us take a look at the movement and its neat details. Of course, sapphire is on the front of the case as well – here we find a cambered sapphire crystal, which has antireflective coating on both sides for optimal visibility, Last, but not least, the watch is water resistant to 30 meters, which sounds pretty reasonable.

The dial is definitely one of the most eye-catching things on this timepiece. First thing you’ll notice is the hand-engraved and hand-painted tiger appliqué. On the opposite side of this fearsome feline, at 9 o’clock, we have a sub-dial, which indicates hours and minutes. And in the center of the dial, we have a second hand, for the true-beat seconds function. The dial itself is black, which goes particularly well with the golden appliqué and golden indications, creating an effective contrast.

Powering the watch, we have a self-winding movement with true-beat seconds

Powering this watch is a self-winding movement with 30 jewels, the caliber A&S6103. The movement beats at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz) and it has a power reserve of 50 hours. One of the most important things about this caliber is certainly the true-beat seconds. The movement itself, among other things, uses a patented system of sophisticated double wheel, along with a pallet mechanism, and an oscillating pinion. Furthermore, the crucial components of this caliber were made using the LIGA technology, which comprises three distinct processes: lithography, electroplating and moulding. The movement itself was treated with rhodium, and it features Haute Horlogerie finishing such as fine circular graining and Côtes de Genève rayonnantes.

Finally, the new TB Tiger is completed with a stylish hand-stitched alligator leather strap, which is available in two colors, brown or black. The latter goes particularly well with the color scheme of the watch, especially with the dial.
