Continuing on the success of the 2015 Connected smartwatch, the Swiss watchmaker TAG Heuer is now proud to introduce the second generation of its smartwatch – the Connected Modular 45. Created in partnership with American tech giants Intel and Google, the Connected Modular 45 was officially announced at two press conferences, one in Brunnen (Switzerland) and the other one in San Francisco (California, USA). Priced at $1,650, the smartwatch is available as of today and can be bought at TAG Heuer boutiques, selected retailers as well as at the brand’s online webshop. With the release of Connected Modular 45, TAG Heuer has become the first watch brand to use the “see now, buy now” approach. First seen in the fashion industry, the “see now, buy now” is a concept where products can be bought immediately after they’ve been presented.
Designed, developed and assembled in the brand’s manufacture in La Chaux-de-Fonds in Switzerland, the Connected Modular 45 is the first TAG Heuer modular luxury watch to bear the “Swiss Made” label. As its name implies, it features a modular design, allowing for different case materials, straps, dials, lugs and buckles. The Connected Modular 45 is available in what seems like an infinite number of colors, materials and styles. In total, there are 56 different versions, all of which can be customized in many ways to suit the individual user. Available in steel, titanium, aluminum, rose gold, black ceramic, with or without diamonds, the Connected Modular 45 comes with a choice of 18 different straps made from rubber, leather, titanium or black ceramic.
The customers can change their smartwatch to a “regular” watch by purchasing an interchangeable mechanical module. Right now, the connected module can be replaced with either the 3-hand Calibre 5 or the COSC certified Tourbillon Heuer 02-T module. TAG Heuer states that more mechanical modules are to come. The Heuer 02-T module comes in a special deluxe box set that includes a connected watch (in titanium, with titanium lugs and brown leather strap) and an additional black rubber strap. This option is available for $17,000.
The screen uses OLED technology which features remarkable resolution and beautiful colors. The Connected Modular 45 comes with 30 different pre-designed dials, including some historic designs such as the iconic “panda” dial. Thanks to the TAG Heuer Studio dial configurator, users can easily create their own personalized dials. They can customize the colors, the design of the metals on the hands and indices, the details in Superluminova and many others. The users can also set the wallpaper to display one of their own photos. The dial can display up to 3 apps such as the number of steps taken, the dollar rate, the number of calories burned, free time before the next meeting etc.
The new TAG Heuer Connected Modular 45 watch features a 50m water resistant 45mm case. Powered by an Intel® Atom™ processor Z34XX series, it operates on Android WearTM 2.0. The Connected Modular 45 features 4 GB of storage memory and a latest-generation lithium battery that guarantees a full day of use. The watch is compatible with mobile phones running Android 4.3 and higher or iOS 9 or higher. TAG Heuer has also updated its Connected app. The app is currently only available on Google Play Store, with iOS support coming soon.
